Energy storage enables power systems operators to leapfrog the traditional ways of maintaining system reliability, providing a solution as suitable for the most isolated grids as for the largest power systems in the world.  The CDEC-SING, an electrically isolated power grid serving Northern Chile, has made this jump, and is currently benefiting from having some of the fastest and most accurate operating reserve units in their system to ensure reliability.
